Each year, the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce awards scholarships to graduating seniors who reside in the 63026 zip code and plan to attend a college, university, technical or trade school. Since 1989, the Fenton Chamber has distributed more than $232,500 in awards to 295 area high school graduates.
This year’s scholarship recipients include: from Rockwood Summit, Shawn Cole, Allison Gacioch, Mallory Greaves, Megan Jerger, Katie Repko, Emily Van de Riet and Hannah Weber; from Ursuline Academy, Abigail Adams and Morgan Diffley; from Lutheran South High School, Lauren Adler; and from St. Louis University High School, Marcus Ramspott and Joe Reichold. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at a special banquet luncheon on Wednesday, July 2nd at Andre’s West Banquet Center – 211 South Old Highway 141 in Fenton. Members of the Fenton Chamber, along with the high school seniors and their families, will join to honor the outstanding achievements of these scholars. The 2014 STEM Summit aimed to strengthen K-12 STEM education throughout St. Louis and Jefferson County, bringing together those who support and play a role in STEM education for the purpose of encouraging students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. The Summit connected students and other individuals with those businesses and higher education institutions which offer STEM courses in an interactive, hands-on format. This conference was organized by the Partners in Education from Rockwood School District along with the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce. Attendees at the Summit had the opportunity to view STEM projects from local area schools such as Lindbergh, Northwest, Rockwood, Vianney and Special School District. In addition, Dr. Pam Keck, National Corn Grower Association Director of BioFuels was the Key Note Speaker. The Summit concluded with a Roundtable Discussion revolving around how educators and business can work together to better educate and guide students into STEM professions. The Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that seven members of the Board of Directors became CPR Certified in the Heartsaver program which was offered through the Fenton Fire Protection District. Participants in this certification included Greg Bresler of Andre’s Banquet Facilities & Catering; Jodi Clinton of Commerce Bank; Paul Carcagno of Fortune Insurance; Rick Nadler of Grand Rental Station; Melissa Sullivan of UniGroup; Vance Scherrer with SERVPRO of Fenton/South Ballwin; and Jeannie Braun, Executive Director of the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce. In coordination with this effort, the Board of Directors has also started fundraising efforts to purchase an AED Machine (Automated External Defibrillator) which will be brought to and available at all meetings and events hosted by the Fenton Chamber. FENTON, MO (January 28, 2014) – Representatives from dozens of Fenton-area businesses will be taking the pledge to bring 10 percent of their business to local organizations in 2014. The “Find it in Fenton First” campaign kicks-off at the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Andre’s West banquet facility. “Local businesses who shop other local businesses multiply their impact,” said Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce President Greg Bresler. “When a business succeeds in our community, they bank with local banks, advertise in local newspapers and purchase local services such as accounting and printing. It is logical for local businesses to support each other.” Attendees at the campaign launch will learn about other benefits of shopping local, including: A Strong Local Economy: When you shop locally, you simultaneously create jobs, fund more city services through sales tax, invest in neighborhood improvement and promote community development. Community Funding: Purchases made locally contribute to the fund for city-provided entities, including police and fire departments, senior services, libraries, street maintenance, parks, trails and much more. The FACC will award $12,000 in scholarship funds to chosen applicants. it is only due to the wonderful support from Chamber members and the community that the Fenton Chamber is able to offer these scholarships each year. To date, the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce has distributed more than $220,000 in scholarships to 283 high school graduates in the 63026 zip code.
New this year, the Scholarship Application is available online via Scholarship Central. A link can be found via the Chamber website or click on the logo below. In addition to the FACC Scholarship, students may also find other available scholarship opportunities in the area through this database. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors who plan to attend a college, university, technical, or trade school. All applicants must reside in the 63026 zip code which includes the City of Fenton, Unincorporated St. Louis County, and Unincorporated Jefferson County. On December 4th, the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce held its 9th Annual Awards & Installation Luncheon at Maritz in Fenton, Missouri. At this event, Chamber members were recognized for their achievements throughout the year. Deb Fruend, Executive Director and Founder of Team Activities for Special Kids (TASK), accepted the award for Small Business of the Year in recognition of the tremendous contribution made not only to the Fenton Chamber, but to the entire Fenton community. Mercy Clinic was recognized with the award for Mid-Size Business of the Year, the company starting with a single practice by Dr. Rezabek to what has grown into a seven-part team, all working together to provide the Fenton community with best possible care. Special School District received the award for Large Business of the Year, accepted by Superintendent John Cary, as they currently educate about 23,000 students with disabilities at sites throughout St. Louis County, including 265 public schools operated by the other 22 public school districts in St. Louis County. Cindy Helmkamp, Business Development Manager of American Eagle Credit Union, accepted the award for New Member of the Year, in recognition of their dedication to the Fenton Chamber and the Community. Located in Olde Towne Fenton and one of the Chamber’s original and oldest members, Krieg Lohbeck & Company CPAs was honored with the Service to the Chamber award for volunteering their tax services to the Chamber over the past three years; Bruce Krieg accepted the award. Megan Bresler of Carrollton Bank received the Chamber Volunteer of the Year award both for her dedication to this past Dinner Auction as Chair and her renewed commitment to that position for the coming event in 2014. The Spirit of the Chamber award was award to Linda Branham of Mary Kay Cosmetics and Jan Mullaney of SERVPRO for their unwavering “spirited” representation at Chamber events as Ambassadors and in the community. Lastly, Paul Carcagno, Vice President of Fortune Insurance, accepted the 2013 Board Member of the Year award for his dedication to the Fenton Chamber Board of Directors, especially with the crucial role he played in this year’s Affordable Care Act Seminar. The Missouri Mathematics and Science Coalition (MMSC) and the Missouri Afterschool Network (MASN) have awarded $5,000 in local community K-12 STEM engagement grants. The Missouri Mathematics and Science Coalition is an organization of business leaders, educators, parents and other stakeholders who have come together to find ways to improve student performance and engagement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The organization is a program of the Missouri Chamber Education Foundation.
