Lessons are available for babies starting at three months, children and adults 18 years and older. Water acclimation classes for infants and toddlers introduce them to the water for the first time and teach back float and submersion. As children move up in program levels, advancement in classes includes learning a variety of swim strokes and swim team participation. For adults, small groups and personalized attention focused on areas needed most is provided. Apart from the safety aspect, swimming is a great form of exercise with heart healthy benefits and reduced impact on joints. According to British Swim School website: “Rita Goldberg founded British Swim School in 1981 and remains CEO. Goldberg’s methodology has evolved over the last 35 years, but began by teaching water safety survival skills to children as young as three months old. The back float is considered the most important water survival skill, as it enables swimmers to rest, breathe and call for help, alleviating the “silent” danger of floating face down. Drowning is the leading cause of death in children under five.” For more information on classes and how to sign up, visit britishswimschool.com.
